Choosing the Right Computer System Cooling

Optimal computer system cooling depends on a number of factors and it’s important to get it right. If the computer system is overheating, then it’s not operating optimally — which means you have to cool it down. On the other hand, if the computer system is running too cold, then that’s also not operating optimally. In other words, you have to be able to run it at optimal temperatures as well. The first thing you need to consider is where the computer will be used most often. Some people plan on primarily using their computers for word processing and spreadsheets in a home office scenario; whereas others plan on doing a lot more intensive uses like video editing or game playing in a dedicated gaming PC or home cinema PC setup. The second thing you need to consider is how much air flow is coming into your computer system. You don’t want any excess buildup of dust or dirt inside your case either because that will only cause problems over time and decrease its lifespan as well.

Bottom or back of the case

When it comes to cooling your computer system, one of the first things you need to think about is whether to cool it from the bottom or back of the computer case. To cool the bottom of the case, you can put a small fan like the Noctua NF-A6 redux-1000 (or any other low noise case fan) or intake fan at the bottom of your case. This will help pull in some cool air through the bottom of the case and expel the hot air out of the case as well. However, you don’t want to put any fan at the back of the computer case. It’s not a good idea because it will pull in dust and dirt from the outside and could potentially damage the motherboard or other internal parts of your computer system. It’s better to keep the computer system’s backside clean and dust-free.

Ventilation

In an ideal computer system, the computer case should have enough ventilation holes to allow the excess heat produced by the computer system to escape the case. However, you don’t want to open up the case and let the hot air escape the case because that will increase the risk of damage to the computer system and its internal parts. There are a few things you can do to help increase the amount of ventilation in your computer system. First off, you can open up all the case ventilation holes as wide as you can until you’re getting airflow from them. This will help provide a little more airflow through the case.

Intake or frontal area

To cool the overall computer system, you also need to be able to get cool air into the computer system. If the intake fan on the motherboard isn’t strong enough, then the case fan will have to do the work of getting the cool air into the system. If you have a case with poor ventilation, then you can also try using a larger intake fan like the Noctua NF-A9i-pWN (or any other high static pressure fan) to help draw in cool air into the case. You also need to be sure there’s enough room around the CPU socket, motherboard, and power supply units to allow adequate airflow into your computer system. If the airflow is restricted, then the CPU and motherboard will be more prone to overheating.
